yesterday was bleak
no one in the whole world wrote
even one poem.

Marital Ambitions
Want to write one of those
books by Salinger, like a fish alight
with some weird surety.
Wish to be a saint whose hands stripe
and eyes pock whatever stroked
or contemplated.
Or a don-juan whose big cloak
envelops all your fantasy.

Raindrops, Leaves, Poems
Moments, Skin, Light
Words, Kisses, Breakfasts
Dust, Junk Mail, Teacups
Old Shoes, Dads, Blood Cells
Billions and Billions of Them
Piled Up
Meaning Nothing
Meaning Everything
"I believe in everything; nothing is sacred
I believe in nothing; everything is sacred."

Stupid Alphabet
When literacy leapt into being
its alphabet all in a neat row
ONE
WORD
AFTER
ANOTHER
MARCHING
On
flat
horizontal
e v e r y l e t t e r
m
e
a
n
i
n
g
l
e
s
s
unto itself
a switch flipped
in the human brain
cultivating
linear thought (one word marching after another)
dialectic reasoning
it is THIS and it is NOT THAT
the logical
masculine
brain
Consider instead,
when you look at an image
and see everything all at once

swirling around in all directions
your brain connecting so much
in a single sweep of your eyes
Consider a picture

and all that it implies
the concrete moment
the holistic instant
the connected synapses of tiny glimpses synthesized into a whole

the feminine
multi-track
nurturing mind.

With our brains coded in the alphabet
from birth
and heavily trained in dialectic logic
is it any wonder that women
and holistic thought
are less respected
than the linear masculine?
It hurts my head to think about this too much.
I want to conceive of a feminine logic
but my brain
marches
in
straight
lines
and all my thoughts
are spelled out
in the alphabet.
its alphabet all in a neat row

AFTER
ANOTHER

Write On
usually a bar poet
he likes to wipe the day off with it.
how to type poems, he scowls,
wishing Word had napkin formatting.
coffeeshop poet
he got it at barnes & noble,
it’s a famous kind. which makes him kind
of famous. transitively. chuckle,
headshake, black coffee, three pages of poetry
twenty of diary
four to-dos
ten nymphal sketches,
one page of phone numbers ka-ching
class poet
she comes every day excited.
she’s got one for everyone. she’s got extra.
she breaks the teacher’s heart.
